Regarding the FreeBSD ports configuration and source installation, would you like to add a switch option to dsiable gui 
compiling?
Something like:
./configure --disable-gui
or for FreeBSD ports:
make -DDISABLE-GUI

I can see how this could be a little confusing -- I have updated the
Makefile for the next version of Nmap to detect this problem better
and output a more user-friendly warning.
