rttvar message

Hi,

I'm not sure, if this is the right list to ask - sorry.

Can somebody tell me what nmap does, when it shows the message "RTTVAR
has grown to over 2.3 seconds, decreasing to 2.0" ? The scan takes
longer if the message is shown. I tried to start it with
"--max_rtt_timeout 5000 --initial_rtt_timeout 5000" but it doesn't
seem to have any effect. Can somebody help me?
