Dear Nmap community, Twenty five years ago today, I released the first version of Nmap in a Phrack article named The Art of Port Scanning (https://nmap.org/p51-11.html). I never thought I'd still be at it a quarter of a century later, but that's because I also didn't anticipate such a wonderful community of users and contributors spanning those decades. You've helped Nmap blossom from a fairly simple port scanner to a full-featured network discovery application trusted by millions of users every day. So thanks for that. And we're not done yet! I'm pleased to release Nmap's 25th anniversary edition, Version 7.93. Besides including the latest version of our Npcap Windows packet capturing software (see the related announcement at https://seclists.org/nmap-announce/2022/0), it includes many other updates that we've implemented over the last year. This release is focused on the fixes and stability improvements that will form the base for all the feature releases we have coming up. And those will culminate with Nmap 8. You can find the full list of Nmap 7.93 improvements at https://nmap.org/changelog. As part of Nmap's 25th celebration, I also participated in a Youtube webcast on network scanning with Metasploit and runZero founder HD Moore. If you didn't catch it live, you can find it here: https://youtu.be/aOqlwsfgUuI?t=50 I was also pleased to appear on the Security Nation podcast episode released yesterday: https://www.rapid7.com/blog/post/2022/08/31/security-nation-gordon-fyodor-lyon-on-nmap-the-open-source-security-scanner/ And Tod Beardsley delves a bit more into the history of Nmap in his "Happy Scaniversary" post: https://www.rapid7.com/blog/post/2022/09/01/25-years-of-nmap-happy-scan-iversary/ Back to Nmap 7.93, you can find the full list of improvements at https://nmap.org/changelog. Nmap 7.92 source code and binary packages for Linux, Windows, and Mac are available for free download from the usual spot: https://nmap.org/download.html We also have Nmap OEM builds available for companies that wish to embed Nmap network discovery technology within their own products: https://nmap.org/oem If you find any bugs in this release, please let us know on the bug tracker or dev list as described at https://nmap.org/book/man-bugs.html. I hope you'll stay with us for the next 25 years! Happy scanning, -Gordon "Fyodor" Lyon _______________________________________________ Sent through the announce mailing list https://nmap.org/mailman/listinfo/announce Archived at https://seclists.org/nmap-announce/
