Rogers outage - House of Commons INDU hearing

Canada is part of North America, and may be of interest to NANOG.

Rogers had a nationwide outage on July 8, 2022.  The House of Commons 
held a hearing today (July 25, 2022) on the outage and invited the Rogers 
CEO, other company CEOs, regulators and academics to testify.

Rogers CEO Tony Staffieri said the company now plans to physically 
separate its wireless and internet networks to ensure more redundancy in 
the future. Company estimates it will cost at least $250 million.

Rogers still plans to complete the proposed $26-billion acquisition of 
Shaw.  The CEO claimed the greater scale of the merged companies would 
allow Rogers to create seperate wireless and internet networks faster.

CRTC chairperson said that reliability and competition are separate 
issues.
