Keepalive's are not designed for stateful firewalls, they are designed to permit the endpoints to know whether the communication channel is still intact. They may also be useful to "keepalive" connection table entries in stateful firewalls and NAT/NATP devices, however this is merely a side effect and not their purpose. -- Both optimists and pessimists contribute to society. The optimist invents the aeroplane, the pessimist the parachute.
