Watch out or I'll tell you about the time I was busted at the Rainbow Bridge for undeclared photo albums.
Actually I lied, it was the Whirlpool bridge, an underappreciated engineering marvel. Trains on the upper level, cars on the lower level, originally built by Roebling as a suspension bridge in 1855, the first successful rail suspension bridge in the world. In 1896-7 they built the current steel arch bridge underneath the existing decks, then took down the towers and cables, keeping the bridge open the whole time. The ironwork is quite elaborate, too bad there's no longer pedestrian access to look at it. The Rainbow Bridge, about a mile upstream, has a better view but is much less interesting. R's, John
