Does anyone know of a way to send SMS messages without an
internet connection? Having a network monitoring system send
sms pages via email very quickly runs into chicken-egg
scenario. How do you email a page to let the admins
know their net has gone down. :-P

GNOKII and a suitable nokia phone.

You could also have a dial-on-demand analog modem over a pots line that
dials a competitor ;-) but overall gnokii is what makes the most sense
because it has the less fate sharing: if a backhoe digs your data and
phone at the same time, chances are that the GSM will still work.
