the mime type is made up, usually based on the file's extension, which
is, of course, passed along with the contents of the file when you
transfer it.  it's no extra information in this context.


What's a file extension?

it's the last alphanumeric token in a string delimited by dots.  for
example:

.com means internet/commercial
.net means internet/networking
.org means internet/non-prof-org
.gov means internet/us-fed-gov
.edu means internet/four-year-degree-granting-educational-instition

oh...never mind.  :)
