I think there's one very clear fact which shows that "nasa.com" was
intended to be used for those mistyping the URL.  Remember that
"www.jpl.nasa.gov" was the URL given out everywhere for the Mars missions.

Default Server:  localhost.hyperreal.com
Address:  127.0.0.1

server 209.4.122.20                                           
Default Server:  ns1.host.net
Address:  209.4.122.20

www.jpl.nasa.com
Server:  ns1.host.net
Address:  209.4.122.20

Name:    www.jpl.nasa.com
Address:  209.4.122.102


This also works for "mdpwww.jpl.nasa.com".
