Are you running a Hackintosh? There, currently, is no release of MacOS that is 10.8. My 10.7 box, with MacPorts ruby, 
works fine with the latest SVN version of Metasploit. Here are my current paths/versions:

zornhau:~ josh$ uname -a
Darwin Zornhau.local 11.1.0 Darwin Kernel Version 11.1.0: Tue Jul 26 16:07:11 PDT 2011; 
root:xnu-1699.22.81~1/RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64

zornhau:~ josh$ ruby -v
ruby 1.9.2p290 (2011-07-09 revision 32553) [x86_64-darwin11]

zornhau:~ josh$ which ruby
/opt/local/bin/ruby
