using nessus/nmap along with metasploit

once i have saved a scan from either nmap or nessus and i use *
db_import_nessus_nbe* to import the scans to the console, does metasploit
scan the entire system for the necessary files or does it simply check the
default folder where the scans are saved?
if i have not installed the scanners in their default directories then will
i have to specify the path where metasploit is supposed to look for the
file? if so how do i do it?
nmap allows saving of scans in 2 formats: .xml and nmap text format; which
one is compatible with metasploit and how do i import namp results(the
command) into metasploit?
