Any recent Linux or Windows installation with 512Mb of RAM and a 2.0ghz+
CPU works fine; you will see a big improvement with more RAM and a
faster CPU. Metasploit has been tested on a handful of embedded devices
with less than 256Mb of RAM, but the results are not pretty.

It shouldn't care, provided the target uses the same virtual addresses
as a real system. This usually means reliable exploitation using VMWare
and Xen, but sometimes VirtualBox and VirtualPC lead to weird results.
