patched ratproxy grabs all resources

When I run the ratproxy with the patch provided in the metasploit download,
it soaks up all of my system resources (98% of 2 MB ram) and renders my
system unusable, regardless of which options I use.  Just to compare, I
compiled the regular ratproxy and ran it and did not see a problem.  Has
anyone else seen this or can help me troubleshoot?  I am working with Ubuntu
