Number Of Bank Customers Affected By Security Breach Soars

GOSSELIN Courant Staff Writer August 29, 2008 Computer tapes lost by Bank of New York Mellon may have contained information about 12 million people nationwide, nearly three times the number the bank first disclosed in May, bank officials said Thursday. It is not known yet how many additional individuals and businesses in Connecticut may be at risk of identity theft and fraud. New York Mellon is expected to release those numbers next week. New York Mellon disclosed in May that the security breach affected 497,333 Connecticut residents, most of them depositors of People's United Bank in Bridgeport. Gov. M.
