A Viewsonic Corp. employee who was terminated early last year was
arrested this morning on federal charges of hacking into the company's
computer system and wiping out critical data that shut down a computer
server central to the company's operations outside the United States.

Andy Garcia, 39, Montebello, Calif., was arrested following an
indictment returned on Jan. 28 by a Los Angeles federal grand jury.
The indictment accuses Garcia of unauthorized access to a protected
computer and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Viewsonic, a computer monitor manufacturer with more than $1 billion
in annual revenue, employed Garcia as a network administrator at the
company's Walnut, Calif. office where he maintained computer servers
and had access to system passwords for management employees.

According to court documents, Garcia had allegedly accessed
Viewsonic's computer system on April 14, 2002, approximately two weeks
after he had been terminated, deleting critical files on a server he
maintained while employed by the company. The loss of these files
rendered the server inoperative, and Viewsonic's Taiwan office was
unable to access important data for several days.

Garcia is expected to make an initial appearance on the charges this
afternoon in Los Angeles United States District Court. If convicted,
he faces a maximum possible sentence of 15 years in federal prison.
