Computer hackers should beware in Boston tomorrow.

A computer and high-tech crimes conference in Boston is expected to
draw some of the nation's top cyber crimefighters to discuss such
pressing issues as denial of service attacks and economic espionage.
The conference will be held from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. tomorrow at the
Westin Hotel in Waltham, just off Route 128.

Among those expected to talk are U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts
Donald K. Stern, state Attorney General Tom Reilly, and Scott Charney,
a former head of the Justice Department's computer crimes and
intellectual property division.

Knowing the options for fighting off hack attacks has taken on renewed
prominence in the wake of the so-called ``love bug'' virus, which
sidelined computer systems worldwide and caused damage estimated at up
to $10 billion. Despite early warnings, the love bug crippled many
e-mail servers, including those at Ford Motor Co., the British
Parliament and Boston City Hall.

Charney, now with PricewaterhouseCoopers, will talk about high
technology and computers as the new criminal frontier. Reilly will
moderate a discussion about assessing a computer network's
vulnerabilities.

Law enforcement officials said they also will address the options
available to cybercrime victims, including federal and state
investigations.
