Cyber defence team closer to online reality

According to the Deputy Secretary for Information Technology and Broadcasting, Alan Siu Yu-bun, agreement has been reached in principle to create the team. But, he said, it should not be operated by the administration. The Innovation and Technology Fund had earlier been asked to finance a study on how a team should be formed and operated. The basic mission would be to provide technical assistance to deal with hackers and virus attacks. Hong Kong had not suffered much from the recent spate of computer virus attacks, Mr Siu said, ``but we cannot treat the matter lightly.'' And after discussions with members of the information industry, the government supported creating a response team.
