A teenage hacker accused of paralysing major web sites of CNN, Yahoo!
and Amazon.com in February has been arrested again in Canada for
violating bail conditions.

The 16-year-old suspect, who cannot be named under Canadian law but is
known by his computer nickname Mafiaboy, was taken back into custody
after being suspended from his high school for cutting classes,
arguing with teachers and other problems, according to Montreal police
and his lawyer.

He has pleaded innocent to more than 60 charges of mischief and
computer hacking involving the temporary disabling of websites by
bombarding them with messages.

After his arrest in April, the youth was allowed to live at home under
strict conditions that included staying away from computers, attending
school and keeping out of trouble.

He was arrested again on December 1 for violating those conditions,
and prosecutors requested that he remain in custody until another
hearing in the case on Friday.

Yan Romanowski, the youth's lawyer, said that keeping his client in
custody for a week was too harsh.

Other people "who have committed crimes that are a lot more serious"
go free on bail, Mr Romanowski said. "I think they want to make an
example of him."

The hacking case in February raised concern worldwide about the
vulnerability of major websites as dependence on the internet for
communication and commerce increases.
