[August 29, 2000--MUMBAI] Management consulting firm KPMG KPMG has
launched its Internet Risk Management Services (IRMS) in India, timed
to coincide with the Cyber Law being passed by the Indian government.

As part of the initiative, KPMG's IRMS practice will offer Public Key
Infrastructure (PKI) encryption services. A company statement
described PKI as representing a comprehensive system that enables
secure electronic communication and data exchange across an open
public network.

"Having PKI in place would facilitate the growth of a number of
businesses such as e-ticketing, information publishing, Web banking,
e-commerce, secure intranets and extranets in a secure environment,"
Coleman pointed out.

"When risk in business is evaluated, technological risks are often
overlooked. But with the Internet becoming synonymous with business
opportunity, security is a critical concern as the Net, in its basic
form, doesn't support any form of encryption," said Sanjay Dhawan,
director, information risk management, KPMG

"Apart from a business plan, organizations will also need an
enterprise security architecture. PKI and Internet risk management
services are essential to ensure all potential security threats are
assessed and addressed," he said.

Through IRMS, KPMG will offer various services including Internet
security analysis, Internet threat assessment, Internet penetration
testing, Internet security controls review and Internet security
policy development.

Verisign has utilized KPMG's services to provide PKI and digital
certificate solutions required by Web sites, enterprises and
e-commerce service providers to conduct electronic commerce and
communication over IP networks.
