In the first such case in China, a computer hacker convicted of
manipulating prices on the Shanghai Securities Exchange was sentenced

Zhao Zhe, a staff member at a securities company, broke into the
computer system of the Shanghai Securities Department of the Sanya

the Xinhua news agency said.

He caused the turnover of two stocks to rise drastically and brought
about a direct loss of 2.95 million yuan (the equivalent of $355,000),
Xinhua said.

The hacker was also fined 10,000 yuan - the equivalent of $1,200.
