Begin forwarded message: From: "Paul Levy" <plevy () citizen org> Date: May 20, 2010 6:05:21 PM EDT To: <dave () farber net> Subject: Pennsylvania Grand Jury Subpoena case developments After the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office got word that there was going to be opposition to its subpoena to Twitter to identify two Twitter users, the AG increased the pressure on Twitter by threatening to hold it in contempt of court if it failed to produce identifying information by Friday (apparently, so that the information could be used at a sentencing hearing that date). Then, it moved up the deadline again and told Twitter it was going to seek contempt sanctions if it did not get the information by noon today. Twitter has stood up to the pressure, reminding the Attorney General that a state court in Pennsylvania can't order a California company to do anything, and urging him to hold off until the Does can be heard in court. On exceedingly short notice, Vic Walczak of the Pennsylvania ACLU affiliate has pulled together a legal team including two local firms specializing in both in grand jury work and the First Amendment, as well as Public Citizen and his ACLU office, to move to quash the subpoena. http://aclupa.org/pressroom/aclurepresentinganonymoust.htm Paul Alan Levy Public Citizen Litigation Group 1600 - 20th Street, N.W.
