No ethical dilemma here... IMO concerned friends and family have a pretty much absolute right and duty to check on someone's welfare if they have pretty good evidence that something is wrong. And it sounds like that's the case here.

If the person is found, and is of sound mind and wants to be left alone, of course you should then honor their wishes. But trying to check on someone who you legitimately think may be in trouble...I think that trumps the hypothetical possibility that checking on the person could cause emotional or mental harm.

    Assuming that Agre decided to go off the grid and cut his
