The analogy is cute but misleading.

In the physical world a thief can't attempt to open a thousand doors a  
minute
on the off chance someone has left one unlocked.

In 'cyberspace' (shudder) that sort of this is trivially easy - your  
computer
does all the leg work while you have a snooze or watch TV and you come  
back
later and make use of the result.
