Subject: Remembering Jon Postel: A Decade Later

Today marks the 10th year anniversary of Jon Postel's death (August 6,
1943 - October 16, 1998), an Internet pioneer who made numerous
contributions to the early developments of the Internet. Jon's
contributions included being the first and longest-serving editor of
Request for Comment (RFC) document series from 1969 until 1998, and
for serving as the primary administrator of the Internet Assigned
Numbers Authority (IANA) until his death. He wrote and edited many of
the protocol standards still used in the Internet today. Jon's most
famous saying, dubbed Postel's Law, was "be conservative in what you
do, be liberal in what you accept from others."
