Jon's contributions included being the first and longest-serving editor of Request for Comment (RFC) document series from 1969 until 1998, and for serving as the primary administrator of the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) until his death. He wrote and edited many of the protocol standards still used in the Internet today. Jon's most famous saying, dubbed Postel's Law, was "be conservative in what you do, be liberal in what you accept from others."
