Apparently (according to a TV documentary that showed examples) the  
pictures of the San Francisco 1906 Earthquake were doctored in order  
to convince people it was safe to rebuild.

It’s not just photos. We also trust the testimony of expert witness  
because, after, all seeing is believing. Even if by proxy.

Perhaps we’re less trusting of text because we know it’s not original  
– just something someone wrote. Unless, that is, the book is sacred.
