True enough. But each time you apply for mobile service the telecom  
company
runs a credit check. From Consumer Reports:

"Each time you apply for credit, a lender’s inquiry to view your  
report is
noted, which can reduce your (credit) score."

Maybe there's no significant risk. But given the capricious way the  
credit
agencies operate, who knows?
