Begin forwarded message: Dave, What's perhaps most disturbing about this is what appears on its face to be an utter lack of understanding of even the current state of discussions regarding such concerns. To even suggest that a nonprofit organization collecting such information and then sending reports to the government somehow makes the situation less ominous is staggeringly naive, especially from someone in such a position. As others have pointed out, such a scenario could easily be even *worse* than a government data-collection operation. --Lauren-- Lauren Weinstein lauren () pfir org or lauren () vortex com or lauren () eepi org Tel: +1 (818) 225-2800 http://www.pfir.org/lauren Co-Founder, PFIR - People For Internet Responsibility - http://www.pfir.org Co-Founder, EEPI - Electronic Entertainment Policy Initiative - http://www.eepi.org Moderator, PRIVACY Forum - http://www.vortex.com Member, ACM Committee on Computers and Public Policy Lauren's Blog: http://lauren.vortex.com DayThink: http://daythink.vortex.com ------------------------------------- You are subscribed as lists-ip () insecure org To manage your subscription, go to http://v2.listbox.com/member/?listname=ip Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
