Dave,

The referenced writeup on this claims that the photo and videotaping
prohibition would be to "further enhance passenger security and
safety ..."

In an age of ubiquitous camera cellphones (many now with video-capture
capabilities), this can only be regarded as a sick joke.

What's more, it would seem that passenger "security and safety" would
be enhanced by *encouraging* passengers to photograph unsafe conditions,
abuses, or other similar problems that can *occasionally* pop up even
on such a fine, sparkling, state-of-the-art transit system as
New York City's MTA.

Just another attempt at using the "terrorism excuse" as a
general purpose cover-up.

Subj: NY MTA To Ban Photography

The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority board is in the
process of banning, among other things, all photography within their
NYC trains, busses, stations, and other facilities. The exception will
be for members of the press who have been issued credentials by the
NYPD. For details, see http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/nyct/rules/proposed.htm
.

From the NYC Transit Authority Rules of Conduct, part 1050.9(c):
Old language:
Photography, filming or video recording in any facility or conveyance
