From: Steve Cohen <stevecoh1 () comcast net> Please! Einar Stefferud has obviously not had to look for a job in this economy! I am really tired of these "cute" anti-protectionist "chestnuts" dragged out with depressing regularity in response to real problems of today that I and many other perfectly qualified (or "over-qualified", read too-high-wage) programmers are experiencing. For a reality check, do check out http://www.epinet.org/content.cfm/issuebriefs_ib198 which documents in statistics the situation that anyone caught in this position has felt first-hand. Of Note: *In 2003, 22.1% of all unemployed workers had been out of work for more than six months, an increase from 18.3% in 2002. *College graduates represent 15.3% of total unemployment, but 19.1% of long-term unemployment. (Those who think education is the solution really need to ponder this one). *While long-term unemployment hit all age and occupational groups, more experienced jobless workers had a disproportionately difficult time getting back to work in 2003. This legislation has nothing in common with "yellow margarine". What it mandates is the cessation of tax breaks to US corporations that were originally granted for the purpose of job creation to companies that are now destroying jobs in the US and moving them overseas. If all government meddling is equally bad, then the tax breaks should never have been given, and by the way, the Internet never researched with your tax dollars and mine.
