>> Fort N.O.C.'s >> By Brock N. Meeks >> ... No signs or markers give a hint that the Internet's most >> precious computer... This is a PR joke. Security? Was a background check done on Mr. Meeks before he was permitted entry? How was he identified? Were other people permitted entry cleared with any background checks?Don't know if any kind of a background check was done on me, but it's not like I am an "unknown" entity, seeing as I've written about the industry for more than 15 years. At the front desk I was asked for photo ID, no different than what it takes to get my ticket at an airline counter. The other people in our group worked for VeriSign, I was the only "outsider."
Two points in the story seemed relevant: 1. It appeared that the inside door of the man-trap could be opened before the outside door was secure. If this is possible, then the security is a joke.Well, no, the inside door can't be opened unless you have the correct hand scan. But yes, it did appear that the hand scan could be done before the outside was closed.
2. I love Meeks' taking pains to mention his employer... >> When asked why only one of the 24-hour cable news networks >> is being monitored Silva says a bit sheepishly, "Oh yeah, we >> should have switched that [to MSNBC] I suppose."But of course, everyone knows I'm just a lousy, self-promoting hack and covert lackey for Bill Gates... I thought this was common knowledge.
