This is the end of this stream unless mailblocks want to say something that makes sense. A mistake, says Phil Goldman: http://weblog.siliconvalley.com/column/dangillmor/archives/000888.shtml#000888
However, looking through the new ones - located at <http://www.mailblocks.com/helplet/terms-of-service.htm> - something I can tell you only because I have not agreed to them (users agree not to "Link to any page of or content on the Site other than the URL located at http://www.mailblocks.com/") - I see that in fact they reserve the right to start spamming their customers at any time; WE RESERVE THE RIGHT AT ANY TIME TO: * Change the terms and conditions of this Agreement; * Change the Services, including eliminating or discontinuing any Services; * Change any fees or charges for use of the Services. Any changes we make will be effective automatically immediately after posting such changes on the Site. Your continued use of the Services following such changes will be deemed acceptance of such changes. Be sure to review this Agreement periodically to ensure familiarity with the most current version. They can change it to say they can spam you (or _anything_ else they like); they don't have to tell you they changed it; and if you don't check a Web page before _every time_ you use the service, you just accepted any change they made. And if you don't like it after such a change? Well, their fees are not refundable under any circumstances whatsoever. [In Britain, the unreasonable contract terms laws would probably have something to say about this. I don't know about the USA.] The conclusion in the original column that "The arrogance of technology companies knows no bounds" seems accurate enough. -- David Damerell <damerell () chiark greenend org uk> flcl? ------ End of Forwarded Message ------------------------------------- You are subscribed as interesting-people () lists elistx com To manage your subscription, go to http://v2.listbox.com/member/?listname=ip Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
