Meanwhile, in a third-world country (Brazil) without a telco monopoly, I 
pay R$79.90 (€22.09) a month for the line (300kbps), plus R$19.90 (€5.49) 
for the ISP; total, €27.58 a month.  If I wanted 1024kbps, the total cost 
would be €54.92 a month.

However, the minimum wage here is just over €66.
