Backbone traffic up due to viruses - metered costs billable?

From: Mike Oliver <me () MIKEOLIVER COM> My upstream provider says backbone traffic is now 40% virus, causing a huge upsurge in megabit-per-second transfer rates. For metered customers, he queried, is this billable to the customer? . . and I had to admit I don't know - its an interesting question. In the absence of controlling legal terms (i.e. just a simple "you pay $X per megabit transferred"), is that chargeable to the customer? If so, there are going to be allot of unhappy metered rate customers this month when they get the "virus bill" - mike oliver
