Dave,

I recently attended the 2002 Chicago International
Intellectual Property Conference.

The conference had top-tier legal experts discussing
such issues as DMCA and WIPO, as well as industry
experts such as SONICblue CTO Andrew Wolfe speaking
about his company's recent legal battles.

I wanted to share a couple interesting ideas with you:

There was an interesting talk by Judge James Holderman
of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District
of Illinois. In his view, there is a grave need for a
patent court at the trial level because generalist
judges are not prepared to handle patent law for
numerous reasons. Additionally, Professor Julie Cohen
of Georgetown University Law Center had some
interesting ideas about protecting individuals'
privacy by allowing them to bring trespass action
against corporate computer "hackers" seeking to
"protect" their copyrighted works by accessing
individuals? in-home computers via P2P networks.

I wrote a two-part article about the conference. I
hope your readers find it interesting.
