Here are a couple of minor references to "intel".

I sure you know that as far back as the 1950s the FBI
had a program called COINTELPRO, in which the INTEL
stood for intelligence

Another obvious one: On August 20, 1964, the International
Telecommunications Satellite Organization (INTELSAT) was
formed.

And, of course, sigintel has meant "signals intelligence" as
long as I can remember.
