There's an interesting analysis of Napster and copyrights written by
Russell Roberts, an economist at the Washington University at St. Louis.

His conclusion is that copyrights are a technological solution that
turns ideas into property.  Using a different technological solution
(e.g. abandoning copyright and relying on DRM) might actually produce
*more* profits for the music industry.
