US President George W. Bush's State of the Union address risks dividing 
the international coalition against terrorism, Britain's press warned today.

The Financial Times said that although Bush's keynote speech "pressed 
all the right buttons" at home, "there is a danger that his ringing 
rhetoric about defeating an `axis of evil' will divide the alliance, 
rather than seal a common purpose."

The Daily Telegraph was alone in its support of Bush. The rightwing 
broadsheet said the president "came across as straightforward, resolute, 
and eloquent in his appeal for self-sacrafice. On that showing, he 
deserves his outstanding poll ratings".
