More information including an agenda can be found at: http://condor.depaul.edu/~dpulas/summit.html John ---- The DePaul University community is invited to attend a special one-day symposium entitled a "Summit on the National Challenges in Science and Technology in the 21st Century" on Thursday, September 19, 2002 at noon in the DePaul University Student Center. This event will bring together government officials, leading scientists, academic leaders, policy analysts, ethicists, students and the media for a unique summit on the future. The four panels will focus on biotechnology and ethics, global environmental change, aviation and space exploration. Speakers and panelists include: Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley; NASA Astronaut Mary Ellen Weber; Dr. Eric Meslin, former executive director of the President's National Bioethics Advisory Committee; Dr. Neil de Grasse Tyson, director Hayden Planetarium; Dr. Robert Zubrin, president and founder of the Mars Society; Dr. Patrick Michaels, Senior Fellow in Environmental Studies, Cato; Dr. Jerry Creedon, NASA associate administrator for aerospace technology; Dr. James Garvin, NASA chief Mars scientist; Mr. David Swain, senior vice-president, the Boeing Company; Dr. Thomas Karl, director, National Climate Data Center, NOAA; Mr. Thomas Walker, commissioner, Chicago Department of Aviation; and many others. The symposium is free and open to the public. Reservations for the evening space panel and keynote address are appreciated but not required.
