According to Congress Daily AM, Senator Shelby said that airline liability came up yesterday in the supplemental appropriations conference, but was deferred for possible consideration by Senate Commerce or other authorizing committees. Commerce Daily said "The airlines want to ensure that any liability they face is limited to passengers and crew." If this is accurate, a bill shielding them from suits related to the World Trade Center and other damage on Manhattan and at the Pentagon should not give them weaker incentives to increase security. Also, this is a regulated industry and we are already seeing greatly increased FAA safety requirements.
