From: Dewayne Hendricks <dewayne () warpspeed com> Iridium Satellite Emerges from the AshesTwo years after its former incarnation Iridium Co. threw in the towel, the new Iridium Satellite LLC is set to start all over again, this time serving Asia Pacific. The resurrected MSS carrier now is owned by a consortium of investors, including Quadrant Australia Ltd. and Inepar SA of Brazil as well as a group of private U.S. and U.K. investors. The group says it learned from Iridium's past mistakes, and the new company has narrowed its customer targets to industrial, commercial and government customers only. The U.S. DoD is one of the carrier's first customers. Subscribers reportedly will pay about $1.50 a minute, compared with original Iridium rates of about $7 a minute. Calls between Iridium phones will cost less than 51 cents a minute. Reported by Dow Jones.
