From: "Hiawatha Bray" <watha () monitortan com> To: <farber () cis upenn edu> I just heard from David McOwen--you remember him? He says the state of Georgia is indicting him on 8 counts, with possible penalties of up to 120 years in stir. All for running an innocuous distributed code-cracking program on state college computers without permission. Here's an early story on the case: http://www.businessweek.com/technology/content/aug2001/tc2001088_076.htm Since then, the poor fellow has been officially indicted. Perhaps you'd want to pass this on to readers. A Web site on the subject may be found at http://www.freemcowen.com/ Hiawatha Bray
