Prof. Hamming had no memorial service -- at his own request, reflecting his
almost-pure atheism.


Mrs. Hamming has indicated:  "The family prefers that contributions in his
memory be sent to Hospice Foundation for the Central Coast, P.O. Box 1791,
Monterey, CA  93942."


We'll all miss Dick Hamming: a good friend, a challanging mentor, a great
scientist.
