ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Imagine shopping, banking, and working from the comfort and privacy of
your home. Consider the wonders which might be achieved through distance
learning and telemedicine. Ponder the endless possibilities offered by
immediate access to a whole world of information at your fingertips.

Welcome to the Information Superhighway.

What will life be like during the Information Age? How will humanism be
maintained as machines assume a grecter place in society? Will the highway
be used to enhance qualify of life for all? Issues of access, distribution
and ownership of information become paramount. White-hot debates
regarding privacy and censorship rage on.

At this day-long event, we will explore the political, social, and
economic impact of the Information Superhighway. Panelists and conference
attendees will examine how this revolution in information technology will
change our lives - at home, school, and work. We will look af the role of
government as technologies converge to offer applications never before
considered. Business leaders will offer their visions of a new world
defined by access and interaction. We will also discuss issues
particularly relevant to the work of fhe World Affairs Council,
specifically, what all of this means for international relations and
economics.

In addition to the days discussions, an interactive media gallery called
"Touch the Future" will allow you to experience firsthand how this
technology works. You may choose to view one of the Louvre's most
treasured collections, shop at the world's first "virtual mall," or simply
explore endless avenues on the Internet.

The future is now! Fasten your seat belts and join us for a high speed
adventure on the most popular highway in the world.
