Announcement of the final draft of Japan's NII on 5/23 (1) Yomiuri Shinbun 5/24 issue reported the final draft of Japan's long-term data super highway plan by the Advisory Council of Ministry of Posts and Telecommunication was released. It will be officially submitted to the government on 5/31. (2) It is essentially the same as the one reported by Max Morris, "Nikkei Article: A Japan's NII", although it has a little bit different numbers: - investment for fiber optical network: 33 to 53 trillion yen plus 42 trillion yen for underground construction. - 3 phase plan by 2000: municipal capitals of prefectures (20% population coverage) by 2005: cities with over 100,000 population (60% population coverage) by 2010: smaller cities - creation of 123 trillion yen multimedia market in 2010 (5.46% of GNP) Note: to get dollar number, divide them by 100.
