USA - Symposium: Harlem and the New Technology

"Harlem and the New Technology" is a symposium co-sponsored by The
Alliance for Public Technology (APT) and the Schomburg Center for
Research in Black Culture on Wednesday, June 22, 1994. The symposium
is free of charge, and is open to anyone that would like to attend.
Events begin with breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and end with a reception at
5:00 p.m.


This one-day event, part of the Schomburg Center's Harlem Futures
series, will focus on implications of an advanced telecommunications
infrastructure for Harlem and other urban communities.  It will feature
panels on:


* Infrastructure Realities
* Community Response to Telecommunications and Infrastructure Availability
* Issues on Conversion to Electronic Formats
* Institutional Partnerships
* Accessing Institutional Programs
* Solutions and Partnerships for Small Business Growth


Panelists include Percy Sutton of Inner City Broadcasting; Anthony
Pharr of the United Church of Christ; Eli Noam of the Columbia
Institute for Tele-information; William F. Squadron, News Corporation;
Allen Hammond, New York Law School; and APT Board members Vincent
Thomas, New York State Department of Economic Development, and Gerald
Depo, The Town of Bloomsburg.
