Dear Governor Wilson,

I am writing to urge you to support California Assembly Bill 1624, which
would provide free public access over the Internet for all legislation
pending in the California Assembly and Senate. Governments are responsible
to the people they serve, and citizens of the state of California will be
much better equipped to participate in the legislative process if they are
provided easy, inexpensive access to information. AB1624 provides just
such access.

More and more people are communicating over electronic networks. The
Internet is the ideal place for dissemination of important legislative
materials, for the Internet has long been used for educational purposes, as
institutions of higher education and research facilities have shared
valuable information with one another. California is once again able to
enact precedent-setting legislation, this time responding to the many
California citizens who communicate through the Internet and want access to
these legislative materials. The California Assembly and Senate have
already shown their approval of this important measure.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation is a nonprofit organization, dedicated
to ensuring that civil liberties are protected in newly emerging
technologies. EFF joins with the many California citizens who urge your
endorsement of California Assembly Bill 1624. If I can supply you with any
additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Shari Steele
Director of Legal Services
