Date: Fri, 15 Oct 1993 07:30:46 PDT From: the wireless terminal of Geoff Goodfellow <geoff4 () radiomail net> regarding the famous El Cerrito "video" experiment on interactive services: it was a total BUST, according to an article in the la times several sundays ago. reasons cited: 1. people would rather wander the aisles at blockbuster video and pick up a movie for a couple of bucks and play it exactly when THEY wanted, than peruse an on screen catalog and pay more than they would from blockbuster. 2. people dont want to interact with their tv's -- its a passive medium (regarding the failure of interactive services via cable). 3. people dont trust their tv's: they would rather sit at the kitchen table and write out their checks by hand, then pay bills on-line. 4. MOST REVEALING: everyone absolutely HATES their cable company!! lousy service, dont care attitude, high prices, etc. etc. geoff What ever became of the famous El Cerrito "video" for idiots experiment that was to determine if interactive services had a place in the home?
