Lawrence Bennett, P.E., Head Engineering and Science Management University of Alaska Fairbanks One other panelist from NTU consortium member Their video will be uplinked to GSTAR-1 simultaneously to demonstrate the effectiveness of the new compressed digital video technology, and their composite video in analog will be broadcast to aforementioned areas. - 2 - Second 60 minutes: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Demonstration of videoconference via Internet by: Professor Kevin Jeffay Computer Science Department University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Professor Jeffay will demonstrate full-color, full-motion videoconfer- ence through Internet data communication network, without use of satellite nor dish antenna. The video appeared on his computer screen will be broadcast via satellite to the aforementioned areas. Objectives: ~~~~~~~~~~~ (1) To demonstrate "Global Lecture Hall" (GLH) (TM) videoconference technol- ogy for TeleTeaching'93 conference attendees, (2) To hold "get-acquainted" face-to-face meeting via satellite between American instructors and prospective Russian students of the newly established U.S.-Russia EDES, (3) To demonstrate the effectiveness of the new compressed digital video technology, (4) To demonstrate the new technology of videoconferencing via Internet. Participation: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you have a satellite downlink facility and our satellite foot-prints cover your area, receive our sateite signal. Other than participation fee, all participants have to be responsible for the costs of (1) down/uplinking from/to satellites; (2) telephone call to a videoconference center in the U.S. for Q&A; and (3) sending fax to the center for backstage coordination.
