Nope!

.xyz has been around for a little while now.

   by ICANN for .xyz [...]

   On the 16th December 2014, it was reported that .xyz was the first
   new gTLD to reach 750,000 registered domain name registrations.


It's owned/managed by XYZ.COM LLC (https://xyz.xyz).  They also have 
the .college and .rent TLDs, and (from a few very rudimentary checks) 
that company does not appear to be related to Google (for starters, 
they host on Amazon AWS...).
