The article says: The Mariposa botnet, which has been dismantled, was easily one of the world's biggest. Here's my takeaway from this: what the article doesn't say, because of course it didn't happen and won't happen is that the systems comprising it (as many as 12.7M according to the same article) have been secured. Which means that there are as many as 12.7M pre-compromised systems out there just waiting for the first person(s) clever enough to conscript them into *their* botnet.
